$100,000 for Cancer
The Québécois Cancer Foundation’s first Grand Vent Against Cancer, which took place from the 1st to the 15th of June, raised $100,000 thanks to some 60 venting events that attracted more than 500 participants.
The Québécois people responded in vast numbers to the call of the Foundation, organizing activities such as Zumba, dog walks, horseback riding, and a wet sponges war.
“The participants of the events in which I participated were so enthusiastic about being able to vent in their own way and encourage the cause,” said Bruno Pelletier, spokesperson of the Québécois Cancer Foundation. “What is most impressive is to note that a single person can create a real impetus of mobilization in his or her circle. A tremendous success for the first event and a good omen for the events to come!”
The collected funds will permit the Foundation to offer an essential support to people touched by cancer and their loved ones, during and after treatments. The money gathered will finance not only the Foundation’s housing establishments, but also information and support services.
Here is what the raised sums will allow to happen: 20,000 telephone exchanges with the nursing personnel of the Info-cancer Line; or 4,000 sessions of physical activity adapted with a Kinesiologist; or 1,000 nights of lodging in a Hotel (including meals, transport to the hospital, and activities) for people who live far from the location of their treatments.
The Grand Release Against Cancer, a collection of funds from the Québécois Cancer Foundation, one of a kind, invited for the first time the Québécois people to unite against cancer, in organizing or in participating, from June 1 to June 15, 2014, to an event that permitted them to vent in their own way and according to their interests.
For nearly 35 years, the Québécois Cancer Foundation has been the main organization specifically dealing with people who are facing cancer. Existing in Montreal, Quebec City, Estrie, Outaouais, and Mauricie, it offers to people suffering from cancer and their loved ones living environments and support services that fill the tangible needs and facilitate their access to medical treatments. In addition, with its Info-cancer services, the Foundation offers free listening, responses, and comfort everywhere in Québec.
